Assault: Two Liberty County residents have been charged with assault. One of those arrested on the Class A misdemeanor is a peace officer with Port Arthur Police Department. The other is the wife of a captain with the Liberty Fire Department. Police responded shortly after 1 a.m. Friday to the 5000 block of Briar Grove in the Ridgewood subdivision. Chief Claunch said the initial investigation determined that an unnamed 30-year-old female had been assaulted by individuals who lived at or were attending a party next door. Those arrested have been identified by Liberty police as 27-year-old Samantha Rene Taylor of Liberty and 24-year-old Ashton Tylor Moss of Hardin. Moss is a police officer with Port Arthur Police Department. Liberty Police Chief Thomas Claunch said the Port Arthur PD has been notified about the charge. Samantha Taylor is the wife of Captain Brad Taylor with the Liberty Fire Department. He was on duty at the time of the incident and was not at the party.
Bookmobile: The Liberty school district’s Bookmobile will begin making its summer rounds today with stops on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week through August 3. Liberty ISD Superintendent Dr. Cody Abshier invites kids to stop by, get a book to read and enjoy a free snow cone. They will make stops every Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Park Place Apartments. Then, on Thursdays of each week at 3 p.m., it stops at Forest Grand Apartments on Lakeland Drive. Now through July 25, the bookmobile will also be at San Jacinto Elementary at both 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Liberty school district’s bookmobile will make other stops this summer in both Liberty and Ames.
