Tax Deadline: A reminder - the official deadline for property owners to pay any remaining 2016 property taxes without incurring attorney collection costs is tomorrow. Taxpayers have both today and tomorrow to pay those taxes without attorney fees that can be up to 20 percent. Liberty County Tax Assessor Collector Ricky Brown said even paying a portion of any taxes owed could save taxpayers a substantial amount of money. For information, call the Liberty office 936-336-4633.

Railroad Crossing: The traffic problems caused in Dayton by the railroad crossing on U. S. 90 has been a topic of discussion for decades now. Liberty County Judge Jay Knight said a meeting in Austin in March of this year that included himself, Representative Bailes, State Senator Robert Nichols, TxDot, Union Pacific and BNSF Railway could be a springboard for action on the 90 rail crossing problem. Judge Knight said there is nothing like a timeline available for the project to move forward, but the meeting in Austin with state and railroad company officials leads him to believe overpass construction at the Hwy 90 rail crossing in Dayton will happen because the powers that be are now listening.
