US 90 in Devers: Those who travel that way have noted work on U.S. 90 from S.H. 61 east to about four miles west of the Jefferson County line is nearing completion. This $20.68 million highway widening project began back in December 2013 and is scheduled for an estimated completion in the Fall of this year. The full length of that TxDOT project is 5.4 miles. Now, it is 90 percent complete. Last Tuesday, traffic moved to the new pavement eastbound and both lanes are open east of Rice Belt Road. However, so far only one lane is open westbound in Devers. The next phase is the completion of that approximately one mile stretch in Devers.
Summer Reading: The very popular Liberty Municipal Library Summer Reading Program gets under way today with weekly entertainment, prizes and reading fun for area children. The free program is for all kids from birth through sixth grade. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World”. The free program also features special entertainment each Thursday at 2 p.m. with presentations from a variety of interesting guests. Children will only need an up-to-date library card to participate, but there is no charge for a card for Texas residents. For information, call the Liberty Municipal Library at 936-336-8901.
Wine Tasting: The Liberty Rotary Club will hold its popular Wine Tasting Party scholarship fundraiser this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Magnolia Ridge Country Club. Six wines will be paired with a four-course meal, including a filet steak dinner. There will also be a raffle for a variety of nice prizes. I-10 Closure: Demolition of the Brush Island Bridge structure will require nightly closures of I-10 today through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During those closures, I-10 traffic between S.H. 73 and FM 365 will be detoured. Westbound traffic will be impacted both today and Thursday while the eastbound traffic on I-10 will be detoured tomorrow and Wednesday nights.
