Fatality: A 51-year-old Liberty woman died Wednesday evening in a one-vehicle traffic accident on County Road 184. According to information from Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Erik Burse, Wendy Rychlik Newbury was southbound on CR 184 when she had a medical event that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. Her vehicle came to rest upright in a ditch.
Body Identified: Human remains found in northwest Liberty County have been identified as 35-year-old Arnold Lee Coker Jr. of CR 3737 in N. Liberty County. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the man’s death. We reported his remains were discovered Tuesday morning in the 1400 block of CR 3737. That’s a short distance east of US 59 near the Montgomery County line. Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said Mr. Coker lived on that roadway about a quarter of a mile from where his remains were recovered.
Fire: The quick actions of passersby probably saved lives and property damage when a flash fire ignited at T. Neal Propane in Dayton afternoon just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. T. Neal Propane’s Craig Neal said preliminary investigation shows one of their employees was filling a customer’s 5 gallon propane tank when the fire occurred. Craig Neal said this is the first accident of this type there in 35 years. Shortly after the fire started, while driving home from work, Robert Hopkins said he saw the fire, called 9-1-1 and then went to help. Hopkins along with Devin Whitley and Greg Warden extinguished the fire before police, Dayton Volunteer Fire Fighters and Liberty County EMS arrived on the scene. Craig Neal said their employee Juanita Zarruba bore the brunt of the flames. She has undergone skin graft surgery. The customer is identified as Lloyd Terry of Dayton. He is said to have suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns and remains in the ICU at Memorial Herman. The incident is under investigation by the Liberty Co. Fire Marshall and the Texas Railroad Commission.
Hardin Graduation: The Hardin high school graduation will be held this evening at 8 p.m. That is different than what we reported yesterday. We apologize for the error.
What’s Your Bid starts tomorrow. Tune in 9 a.m. until noon. **************************************************** *Lake Release: 5,000 CFS – Liberty Bridge 11.04 ASL*
