Dayton FFA Livestock Show: The 68th Annual Dayton FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo concluded Saturday after four days of excitement. As for the all-important livestock auction - with add-ons and re-sales, it brought in $213,138 for the students of the Dayton school district. This year’s Grand Champion Steer was shown by Dequinncy Dever. It was purchased by Thrif-tee Food Center for $11,730. The Reserve Champion Steer - exhibited by Layne Bode - sold to Foster Fence for $7,800. During Saturday’s festivities, the annual event was dedicated to Jack Carraway, a longtime Dayton ag teacher and assistant superintendent. Also honored Saturday was auctioneer Brady Hanson. The well-known local businessman was born and reared in Dayton and is a past state-champion auctioneer.
Dayton Sports Hall of Fame: The Dayton Sports Hall of Fame will pay tribute to outstanding Dayton ISD athletes and sports figures throughout the 100-year history of Dayton male and female sports. The first induction ceremony is set for Tuesday, June 6, at 3 p.m. in the new Dayton ISD Performing Arts Center on the high school campus. The public is encouraged to attend.
Camp Invention: Liberty ISD Superintendent Dr. Cody Abshier says the popular summer Camp Invention will be held July 10-14 at San Jacinto Elementary. It’s for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Camp director is Lisa Little. Mission Space Makers provide students a chance to hatch eggs, sprout plants and grow crystal trees while on a mission to locate and prepare a planet for habitation. For info, go to
Lee College: Lee College is a finalist for the 2017 Americn Association of Community Colleges Awards of Excellence for Advancing Diversity, Faculty Innovation and Outstanding College/Community Partnerships. This is the second consecutive year Lee College has earned national recognition as a finalist in three of the five categories.
