LCDC Appointments: Liberty City Council met in a special session Tuesday to rescind and redo appointments made to the Liberty Community Development Corporation Board at a council meeting on May 9. Liberty city officials said an internal error led to those appointments being done incorrectly. The initial list of board members with expiring terms included David Arnold, Leslie Herndon, Mark Campbell and Mike McCarty. While Arnold, Herndon and Campbell were reappointed by council, McCarty was not. Liberty Council voted instead to appoint newcomer Walden David instead of McCarty. In fact, we are told Mike McCarty’s name should not have been put on the reappointment list in the first place since his current term on the LCDC Board does not expire until May 2018. So, Tuesday Liberty council members rescinded the appointments made to the Liberty Community Development Corporation last week. David Arnold asked that he not be reappointed. Then, council appointed Mark Campbell, Leslie Herndon and Walden David.

Liberty School Board: The Liberty school board now includes more women than men for the first time in the district’s history. On Tuesday, four Liberty ISD trustees took the oath of office, and the school board now includes four women and three men. Liberty school trustees also elected officers for the coming year. Bruce Bell will serve as school board president while Lance Lawrence is vice president. Patty Watson is the new secretary. Rounding out the seven-member Liberty school board is Rachel Odell, Malcom Goudeau Jr, Debbie Beasley and D-Ann Berry.

Sam Center: The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center will temporarily close its museum exhibit space a week from today. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission has started renovation of the 1,900-square-foot museum exhibit space at the Sam Houston Center. While the exhibit area will be closed in coming months, the research library as well as the historic buildings will remain open to the public throughout the museum renovation. The center is located at 650 FM 1011 in Liberty. For more information, call 936-336-8821.

Correction: Yesterday’s Radiogram contained a story about a burglary suspect captured in downtown Liberty. That occurred around noon Monday, not Tuesday as originally reported.
