DISD: Dayton ISD will have a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the Performing Arts Center, this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the new Dayton High School Auditorium. With its 832 seats, plus orchestra pit, it is the largest climate controlled facility for performances in Liberty County. Also on Saturday, there will be an open house forthis all new Stephen F. Austin Elementary on East Houston at State Highway 146, the all new Dr. E.R. Richter Elementary on Cherry Creek at 321, the Nottingham Alternative Education Center on S. Cleveland St. and Dayton High School on State Highway 321, all from 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday. The public is urged to share in this exciting event for the district.
Law Enforcement Memorial: Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader, in conjunction with First Baptist Church of Dayton, will host a National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial on Thursday, May 18 in First Baptist Church of Dayton, 202 East Houston Street. The event will honor all Texas peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during 2016. Back in 1963, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the corresponding seven day period as Police Week. The proclamation called for recognition of the service given by the men and women who, night and day, protect us through enforcement of our laws and who may have lost their lives in doing so. Everyone is invited.
Shred It: The City of Liberty will host another free document shredding and electronics recycling event this Saturday May 6th from 9 a.m. until noon or until the trucks fill up. Add to that free recycling of paper, cardboard, aluminum and plastics. Liberty City Manager Gary Broz said this event will feature the commercial shredding of sensitive documents like tax records and financial statements. There will also be free recycling of unwanted or outdated electronics. The Shredding and Recycling Event is free to anyone, not just city of Liberty residents. The public is urged to arrive early. The trucks fill up fast.
Beef: The Liberty County Extension Service will hold a Beef Management Seminar tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - the location of that program has been changed. It will now be held at the Dayton Community Center. For information or to signup, call the Liberty County Extension Office at 936-334-3230.
