Top Marks at UIL: A Dayton High School student placed at the state UIL Academic Meet over the weekend. Abby Jane Howeth claimed second place in statewide Feature Writing. She is the first Bronco to place at the State UIL Academic meet since 2010. A tip of the hat to Dayton’s Abby Howeth for her success at the state competition.

Sanctuary Cities: The Texas House this week passed a bill that would ban so-called “sanctuary cities” in the Lone Star State. The phrase has no legal meaning, but has come to refer to cities or some cases, counties that allegedly do not follow current federal guidelines regarding deportation of undocumented immigrants. The Texas legislation – if approved by the state senate and then signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, would not punish illegal immigrants but would instead seek to impose criminal charges on municipal police chiefs and elected county sheriffs who do not turn over illegal immigrants in their custody to federal immigration authorities.

LMS Gala: Liberty Middle School invites the community to attend their Fine Arts Gala today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. There will be displays of student artworks. Graphic Arts classes will showcase computer animations as well as desktop publishing creations like movie posters, alphabet photography plus digital photography.
