Daniels Scholars: Four students will recieve $21,000 each from the Paul Daniels Scholarship Trust for a total $84,000. The four students are Yasmin Aros, of Dayton. Zachary Barrett, of Hardin, Allen McAdams, and Lidia Ochoa of Liberty High. To be eliglible, these four students who will graduate in May, must rank in the top 25% of their class, have a financial need, and intend to be a full-time student at a four-year institution.
Sentencing: 19-year-old Michael Richardson of Cleveland was one of four accused in the robbery and murder of a clerk at an Exxon convenience store on FM 2025 back in December 2015. The victim was 40-year-old Conbino Crasto, best known as ‘Bino”. At the time, Cleveland police said three suspects entered the store where they shot and killed Bino Crasto before stealing cash. Richardson has already pleaded guilty to murder. Now, he is facing sentencing by a jury in the 253rd District Court of Judge Chap Cain.
Shred It: The City of Liberty will be holding their next free document shredding and electronics recycling event as well as free recycling of paper, cardboard, aluminum and plastics. The event is Saturday May 6th in the Liberty City Hall Parking lot from 9 a.m. until noon or until the trucks fill up.
Ole Tyme Days: The Dayton Ole Tyme Days Festival is Friday through Sunday, April 21st through April 23rd. The popular Ole Tyme Days Car Show is back again as well. Car Show Chair Charlie Whitehead said entries are being accepted from now until show time on Saturday April 22nd from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry fee is $25 in advance, $30 on the day of the show. Liberty City Council: The Liberty City Council met Tuesday and approved a variance to the city’s minimum lot requirements. The now vacant lot on the corner of Milam and Lynch is the proposed site of a small, five lot development planned by Brandon Lawson. The plan is to build and rent five small residences- usually referred to as “garden homes”.
