Relay for Life: The 17th Liberty County Relay for Life committee and participants have done it again. According to one of the event leaders, Sandra Sterling, this year’s relay raised at least $72,863, with more expected to trickle in during the next few days. That brings the total raised for the American Cancer Society – just in South Liberty County since the first local event back in 2001 – to more than $1.4 million. Of note, the top fund-raising team at this year’s Relay for Life was Terri Lee’s Pink Angels who brought in $21,000. They were followed by Team Hope from First United Methodist Church of Dayton, which raised $10,646. A tip of the hat to event leader Crista Beasley and all of the volunteers who made this year’s event such a success. If you still want to make a donation to this special effort, call Sandra Sterling at 936-336-3716.

Freedom Ride: Saturday’s Liberty Freedom Ride benefiting the Liberty ISD Education Foundation came off without a hitch, according to event organizers. Foundation Coordinator Bruce Wright said the bicycle ride raised at least $13,000 to fund innovative teaching ideas on the Liberty Independent School District’s four campuses that go beyond the district’s operating budget. He thanked the more than 100 volunteers and sponsors plus the 195 riders who helped make the event a success.

Easter Egg Hunt: KSHN Radio will host our 34th annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday morning at Liberty Municipal Park. The event is free for all kids 9 years old and younger. Scattered about the city park hunt area will be 5,000 plastic Easter eggs with candy inside. There will also be 90 plus prize eggs, and the kids who find these specially marked eggs can claim their prize right there at the park. In addition, there are three grand prize eggs in the hunt area. This year’s grand prizes include a bicycle and safety helmet. Another is a $75 gift card to Game Stop plus a big bunny. The third grand prize will be an extra nice State Farm Insurance wagon from local agent Victor Barranco. The start signal is this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Liberty Municipal Park, but we recommend arriving earlier. Keep your radio tuned to FM 99.9 for instructions.
