Body Discovered: Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered yesterday morning. Captain Ken DeFoor said the body was discovered by the caretaker of an abandoned church on FM 1008 in Kenefick. JP Pct 4 Larry Wilburn held an inquest and ordered an autopsy. Captain DeFoor said the body was that of a white woman, but identification was not possible because of the body’s decomposition. Investigators hope to learn more about the woman’s identification and cause of death when the autopsy is complete. Anyone with information is asked to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500.
City Manager: Dayton City Council met Monday night to start the process of locating a new permanent city manager. While Kerry Lacy holds that job for the city in the interim, Dayton is posting the city manager’s job listing with Texas Municipal League and other resources. Dayton Mayor Jeff Lambright said he believes they will get numerous resumes from top-notch applicants who want to be a part of the growing city of Dayton, Texas. The mayor said city council is looking for a new city manager who is able to deal equally well with that growth and with the small-town atmosphere that is part of Dayton life.
Ride for the Bear: A Liberty County based group, the Lindsay Foundation, will hold its Ride for the Bear fund-raiser Saturday. That motorcycle ride departs at 9 a.m. from Academy Sports in New Caney. The Lindsay Foundation’s primary goal is to assist families across America with the resources necessary to provide medical treatment, therapies and rehabilitative equipment in order to improve the quality of life for their special-needs children.
