Candlelight Vigil: The annual candlelight vigil honoring victims of crime and child abuse is this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty Center at City Hall. This annual vigil honors victims of crime, their families and those who serve them. Liberty County District Attorney Logan Pickett said the special event also alerts the public to the realities of such crime while expressing hope for a less violent future. Weekend College: Lee College in Baytown’s Weekend College Program offers a chance to earn an associates degree in less than two years by taking classes year around on Fridays and Saturdays. The classes are on the Lee College Main Campus and the courses available include five rapidly growing career fields. This Thursday’s “Take Command of Your Future” event at the Lee College South Liberty County Education Center will feature information on Weekend College though the program is only offered on the Lee Main Campus in Baytown. Blood Drive: Life Share Blood Center will hold a blood drive Thursday at the Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center in Liberty. The Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center is located 1353 North Travis Street in Liberty. Anyone who has not donated whole blood in the last 56 days or double red cells in the last 112 days is eligible to donate. The blood drive will be in the Outpatient Foyer from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call 936-336-7316, Ext. 124.
Mud Bugs: There’s still time to get your ticket for this Saturday’s Dayton Chamber of Commerce Mud Bug Fest. In conjunction with that festival, the Dayton Chamber will raffle off a 2017 Polaris Ranger. Dayton Chamber Executive Director Paula Moorjah said $100 tickets give you a chance to win that UTV – or utility task vehicle - along with entry into the Mud Bug Fest and plenty to eat.
