Caterpillars: According to Sandy Gammon of the Liberty County Extension Service tent caterpillars in this area belong to several different varieties that appear once a year, usually in April and sometimes in large enough numbers to become a serious nuisance. While the trees and shrubs infested by these crawly pests usually survive, they will be defoliated by the ravenous caterpillars if they are allowed to go unchecked. For more information on controlling tent caterpillars call the Liberty County A&M Agri-life Extension Service at 936-334-3230.
