Liberty County Wages: The average weekly income in Liberty County is below the state and national averages. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports the average wage across America is $1,027 per week. That is from the latest reporting period, as of the third quarter 2016. Texans fair a little better, earning an average weekly paycheck of $1,042. However, here in Liberty County, the average weekly wage is reported at $773 – that’s 25.8 percent below the statewide figure. So, while the average yearly wage for Texans statewide is $54,184, Liberty County residents average $13,988 less than that with an annual wage here of $40,196.
Lit Crit: For the 13th straight year, the Liberty High School Literary Criticism team has been crowned district champion. Individually, Liberty students made it a clean sweep by winning first through third place. Liberty’s Jacob Stelly won the meet. Keaton Parker captured second with Emily Connelly taking third. Another Panther, Jensyn Runkle, placed fifth. Liberty’s team sponsor and coach is Randy Gunter. Liberty’s Lit Crit squad also includes TaNia Donatto and Gavin Deshotel. The Regional competition is April 8 in Huntsville.
Relay for Life: The 2017 South Liberty County Relay for Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society, is coming up on Friday, April 7, from 6 p.m. to midnight at Liberty’s Memorial Stadium. Registration is at 6 p.m. The Cancer Survivors Lap starts at 6:30. Since the first year back in 2001, the South Liberty County Relay has raised $1,432,900. Liberty Soccer: The Liberty Panthers are bi-district soccer champions. In the Area round, the Panthers will face the Hudson Hornets. That game is this Friday at 8 p.m. at Huntsville High School. The school’s address is 515 FM 2821, Huntsville, Texas 77320. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
