Heritage Award: Each year, the Trinity Valley Exposition honors a man or woman who has made significant contributions to the TVE, its volunteers and youth participants. Also, award recipients have typically shown dedication to preserving the character and values of earlier generations. The TVE board has announced this year’s Western Heritage Award goes to not one, but two deserving honorees - Drs. James and Donna Hall. The couple has worked for more than 40 years at their Dayton Veterinary Clinic to ensure the health and well being of animal patients while also establishing committed relationships with their owners. The Western Heritage Award presentation is part of the TVE spring fundraiser - the Annual Cowboy Crawfish Boil set for April 1 at the TVE fairgrounds. $100 tickets are available. For information, call the TVE office at 936-336-7455.
DISD Calendar: The Dayton school board approved the 2017-18 school-year calendar during Tuesday night’s regular meeting. DISD students will be starting the 2017 school year on August 17 with the last day of school set for May 25, 2018. You can view the newly approved 2017-18 calendar on the DISD website - link there under the local information tab at
Jubilee: There are still a few booth spaces available for either arts and crafts or commercial vendors at this weekend’s Liberty Jubilee. According to Jubilee Commercial Booth Chair Amy Hillyer, there are only five vendor spaces still available and they will accept last-minute additions through today. For rental details, call Liberty City Hall at 936-336-3684 or link to the city’s website from
Car Show: The Second Annual BJ Ford Car Show has been set for Saturday, April 1. Registration for those entering the show begins at 9 a.m. Robert Dunn, managing partner at BJ Ford, invites the collector and show car community to sign up or just stop by to see the wide variety of vehicles entered. A $10 crawfish or fried catfish lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Tony Fontenot and crew. It’s $25 to enter a vehicle in the show, but that entry fee benefits the Liberty VFW. There is no charge to stop by and look at all the interesting vehicles, including the #21 Ryan Blaney Motorcraft show car. For more information or to enter, go online to
