Dayton City Council: At their meeting Monday night, the Dayton City Council voted to finance $575, 000 in tax notes to cover recent expenses. We reported weeks ago the Dayton City Council had agreed to fund three major projects with estimated total cost of around $550,000. Most important of those items is $200,000 in repairs to the city’s Clayton Street Water Well. Repairs are underway there. The other two items council approved buying were a new street sweeper and software upgrade to the city’s accounting system.
LHS One Act Play: The Liberty High School Panther Players Theatre Production Group advanced from District UIL One Act Play to Bi-District with their play “Tracks” directed by Jerre Delaney. In addition, several Panther Players received individual recognition at the district competition. Liberty’s Sydney Underwood was named to the All Star Cast. The Best Tech award went to Kaylea Voldahl. Honorable Mention All Star Cast honors go to Panthers Avery Bendele and Conner Perez. The Bi-District UIL One Act Play competition is tomorrow at Atascocita High School. Jerre’ Delany invites the community to see the Liberty High School Panther Players perform in that competition tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Humble
Freedom Ride: There’s still time to sign up for the Liberty Freedom Bicycle Ride benefiting the Liberty ISD Education Foundation. That ride is set for Saturday, April 8. Foundation Coordinator Bruce Wright said there are five competitive distances with routes covering 20, 33, 44, 61 and 79 miles as well as a two-mile social ride. All rides will start and end at the Humphrey’s Cultural Center on Sam Houston Street in Liberty. For more information, call Bruce Wright at 936-641-0367.
Bronco Relays: The annual Bronco Relays has been moved up one day and will now be held tomorrow at Bronco Stadium. Dayton ISD Athletic Director Jeff Nations said the one day change is related to the forecast for thunderstorms on Friday. Field events get under way at 2:30 p.m. followed by running events. It all takes place tomorrow at Bronco Stadium.
