Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners met in a special called meeting yesterday and voted to rescind a contract with Constable Precinct 6 that provided law enforcement services to north Liberty County subdivisions of Bella Vista, Grand San Jacinto, Montebello and Rancho San Vicente property owners association. That contract for services will now go to the Liberty County Sheriffs Department at the request of the property owners association. Specifically Liberty County Deputy Sheriff Ivan Gonzales will be assigned to patrol the area at the request of the property owners association. The cost of those services is funded by the property owners.

Burress Replaces Pruitt: The Dayton City Council met Monday and appointed Alvin Burress to fill the council seat left vacant by the recent resignation of Dwight Pruitt. An active member of the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. Burress will be sworn in to serve the just over one year remaining on Dwight Pruitt’s city council term at the next scheduled Dayton City Council meeting.

Computer Classes: Liberty Municipal Library is once again hosting free beginning computer classes. Those courses will be taught by Ann Rogers, a long time volunteer computer instructor. Liberty Library Director Dana Abshier said the first class is set for March 28, 29 and 30, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. each day. This class is for true beginners only. Signups for those free beginning computer classes are on a first-come, first-served basis and must be done in person with Jill Daniel at the library’s information desk. No phone reservations will be accepted.

Spring Forward: Sunday at 2 a.m. marks the return to Daylight Savings Time. That’s when clocks will need to be set forward or ahead one hour. Radio-controlled atomic watches and clocks should adjust to the time-change automatically. The time should automatically update on computers and cell-phones. All other clocks and watches will need to be changed manually.
