Highway Bill: Texas Congressman Brian Babin represents the 36th district in Texas in Washington of which Liberty County is a part. Dr. Babin said one of the committees he is on, the Transportation-Infrastructure Committee, has recently made changes that will allow log trucks to continue using Hwy 59 once it becomes Interstate 69. Currently, the weight limit of a log truck is lower on an interstate meaning once 59 becomes Interstate 69, loggers would either have to lighten their load, or find a different route. Congressman Babin said that was putting a heavy financial burden on an already stressed industry.
