Power: Entergy Texas offers emergency power bill payment assistance to the elderly and disabled individuals who are in crisis. Non-profit groups and Entergy Power customers donate to the Power to Care Program and Entergy Shareholders match their donations. If you are an Entergy customer you can contribute to the Power to Care Program by indicating an amount of your donation on your power bill.
DISD Auditorium: Work is nearing completion on the new Dayton ISD Performing Arts Center. That UIL compliant auditorium is on the Dayton High School Campus and, once finished, will host DISD theatrical productions, district UIL competitions and some community events. It is by far the largest heated and air conditioned auditorium in Liberty County. DISD Superintendent Dr. Jessica Johnson said they expect to have students using the new performing arts center in April.
Basketball: The Dayton, Liberty, Hardin, Barbers Hill and Tarkington girls basketball teams have each advanced to the Bi-District round of the state playoffs. Liberty faces Yates Monday at 6 p.m. in Huffman. That game will be followed at 7:30 p.m. in Huffman by Tarkington versus Wheatley. Dayton takes on Beaumont Central Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hardin-Jefferson High School. Hardin is matched against Hitchcock at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Channelview High School. Also Monday, Barbers Hill faces Livingston at 7 p.m. - Porter High school gym.
All-State: Three Liberty Panthers and one Cleveland Indian have been named to the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Football team. Liberty’s star running back Alex Brown was named to the Second Team Offense. Also named All-State Second Team is Liberty Junior John Moorman. All-State Honorable Mention squad includes senior Liberty linebacker Tyris Williams. Also on the Honorable Mention squad was Cleveland Indian Jett Hendrix.
