Traffic Arrest: Two men claiming to be from the Raywood area were arrested on multiple charges last Thursday following a traffic stop on State Highway 146 near County Road 2098 south of Moss Hill. The driver, 31-year-old Jonathan Chez Candelaria, has been charged with using a Suspended Driver License, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Expired Registration, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility. His bail is set at $4,000. The passenger, 29-year-old Wil Addison Caddie, is charged with Failure to Identify and Fugitive Intent to Give False Information, Evading Arrest as well as Possession of Marijuana. His total bail is set at $20,500. He also has a hold requested from San Jacinto County for bail jumping. At last report, both men remain in Liberty County Jail.
Alan D. Conner: A surprise at the Dayton City Council meeting Monday, when council voted 2 to 1 to appoint Alan D. Conner as the city’s tax assessor. His appointment as Dayton Tax Assessor will not result in any additional salary. Dayton City Manager David Douglas said the only cost to the city for Mr. Conner’s extra duties is the $1,200 annually required to maintain his tax assessor certification. Dayton Mayor Jeff Lambright stressed Alan D. Conner will be acting as Dayton’s property tax assessor only. The city’s property taxes will continue to be collected by the office of Liberty County Tax Assessor/Collector Ricky Brown.
CASA: The annual Boots-N-Bandanas Benefit for Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASA of Liberty and Chambers Counties is coming up two weeks from Saturday. That’s February 25 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. in the Dayton Community Center on 801 South Cleveland St. CASA Executive Director Debbie Dugger invites the community out for an evening of fun for a worthy cause. Debbie Dugger said this fun-filled evening includes a barbecue dinner, live and silent auctions, a raffle, plus live entertainment from the Heart of Texas band. Tickets are $30 each. Make reservations by calling the CASA office at 936-334-9000.
