Body Found: Liberty police report they located the body of Benjamin “Wes” Cornell floating in a large area of water near the end of Washington Street. We had reported the 37-year-old man was last seen January 29 walking toward that area where he was known to spend time. Sunday morning, Liberty police returned to that area of the city to continue searching for Mr. Cornell. Aerial photos taken with a drone identified what appeared to be a human body. Liberty Fire Department personnel were called for assistance in recovery. Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Larry Wilburn held an inquest and ordered an autopsy at the Jefferson County Medical Examiners Office. So far, Liberty police say there is no evidence of foul play.

Pruitt Steps Down: The Dayton City Council met Monday to accept the resignation of longtime council member Dwight Pruitt. The Dayton Mayor Pro-Tem said he is stepping down to accept the position as pastor for St. Miles Missionary Baptist Church in Ames full time. Dayton Mayor Jeff Lambright said he is happy for Mr. Pruitt but admits he will definitely be missed on council. Dayton Council is expected to appoint someone to fill that vacancy on city council at their meeting on February 20th.

Bus Stops: Dayton Rotarians are planning to install 4 foot by 8 foot bus shelters at locations in the Dayton ISD. Rotarians and Dayton Mayor Jeff Lambright said the plan was for four of these sturdy shelters, an outpouring of support means they can do more, as much as seven. For those who want to help, contact any Dayton Rotarian, Jeff Lambright at the Liberty County Central Appraisal District Office 936-336-5722 or Josephine Perry at Heritage Mortgage. That’s 258-8040.
