Vandals: A Liberty Police report says there was major damage to the city park caused by a vehicle cutting donuts in the parks turf. It was sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, causing deep ruts in the park’s turf. Police say this occurred after the parks’ posted closing time. As a result, besides criminal mischief, this crime is also being considered criminal trespassing. Anyone with information on this vandalism is asked to call Liberty PD at 936 336 5666.
Texting while Driving: At their meeting last week, the Liberty City Council held a work session to revisit the possible creation of an ordinance banning the use of handheld devices, specifically calling or texting, while driving within the city limits. Council had requested, at an earlier meeting, that Liberty City Attorney Brandon Davis draw up such an ordinance for review. According to the City Attorney, some 90 Texas Cities have passed ordinances prohibiting handheld phone use while driving. Mr. Davis used some of those ordinances as models for the ordinance he presented to Liberty Council Members for consideration. This was a discussion item only and no vote could be taken. Liberty City Council members say they anticipate returning to the issue in the future.
