Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners held a workshop yesterday morning to discuss the possible purchase of what is known as the old Thrif-Tee Food Center building in Liberty. An issue of the family relationship between County Judge Jay Knight and County Treasurer Kim Harris, whose husband’s family owns the building, was addressed by a letter from the Austin based law firm of Bickerstaff, Heath, Delgado and Acosta. The county judge and county treasurer are third cousins. The letter said no conflict is triggered with respect to the judge. Treasurer Kim Harris has no vote on the court so that would also negate conflict, but she would be required to file an affidavit disclosing her relationship to the property owners.
