Armed Robbery: Two Huffman residents are in custody following a Monday morning armed robbery of the Westside Grocery on FM 1960 in Dayton. The pair was arrested a short time following the robbery after fleeing on foot. 20-year-old Alexander Brent Gann of Huffman and a 14-year-old male runaway from Huffman are both charged with Aggravated Robbery. The young teen was turned over to juvenile detention in Conroe. At last report, Alexander Gann remains in Liberty County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
Dangerous Intersection: There are a number of troublesome traffic areas in the growing City of Dayton, but when it comes to serious - sometimes fatal - crashes, one area stands out. The intersection of U.S. 90 and FM 1413 has been the scene of a high number of vehicle crashes recently. Dayton Police Chief John Headrick said Texas Department of Public Safety is aware of the problem and is currently exploring possible solutions to that dangerous spot. Chief Headrick said it is the combination of heavy traffic and the general layout of the intersection that results in so many serious crashes there. He said TxDOT does not have a timeline for addressing the problem but has developed a scenario for redesigning the intersection slightly as a way to make the spot safer to motorists.
County Attorney: Though on the job only a short time, Liberty County Attorney Mathew Poston said he has learned his office is a busy place. Poston said his top priorities right now involve finding ways to streamline the heavy workload. Mr. Poston said there is some confusion about what his office does. It is not a free legal service to the public. The county attorney offers legal assistance to county office-holders while also prosecuting misdemeanor criminal offenses.
Casino Bus: The next Coushatta Bus Trip sponsored by the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is this Thursday. To sign up, call Eliza Guidry at 936-258-5345 or 402-0340.
