Poston on SPCA: We reported more than 150 animals seized from Puppy-Dogs-R-Us, a privately run shelter near Dayton were ordered returned to that facility. Judge Larry Wilburn ruled the search warrant used to take the animals was not lawful. Liberty County Attorney Mathew Poston said the law allows experts such as the SPCA to assist law enforcement without any formal agreement. Mr. Poston said an inter-local agreement between the Houston SPCA and Liberty County could be beneficial but isn’t required for the animal rescue organization to help with animal seizures here.
Trash Collection–Liberty: Liberty City Officials report a smooth transition when the decision was made to hire a new company to provide solid-waste collection and disposal services for Liberty city residents. Liberty council passed on renewing their contract with longtime solid waste collection provider Waste Management in favor of a company called L.T.’s Garbage Service of Dayton. Liberty City Manager Gary Broz said L.T’s is now working with the city on a clean-up program targeting unsightly excess trash or large amounts of discarded building materials at Liberty residences.
