Shooting: An 18-year-old Liberty woman was taken by air ambulance to a Houston hospital after being shot in the face Friday night. Liberty Police Lieutenant Chip Fairchild said they were called to the Deluxe Inn on Highway 90 at East Street around 8 p.m. Friday. He said Brooke Lynn Luce of Liberty was shot and taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston with what were thought to be non life-threatening injuries. Lt. Fairchild said witnesses report Brooke Luce was shot during an argument with her boyfriend, identified as 18-year-old John Anthony Murton. He fled the scene before police arrived. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of John Murton is asked to call Liberty police at 936-336-5666.
Lowe Processional: In honor of Warrant Officer Lucas Lowe, the Liberty Lions will place American flags at the church where his funeral service will be held, and the Hardin Lions will line the processional route from Hardin on to Guedry Cemetery with American flags as well. The Patriot Guard Riders of Texas, Liberty County Group, along with riders from the Golden Triangle and Houston, will provide a flag line at both the visitation and the funeral service and flag escort to the cemetery as well. For those who would like to honor Warrant Officer Lowe, the processional will travel from North Main Baptist Church in Liberty north on 146 to Hardin. It will turn east onto FM 834 and north on FM 770. The processional will then turn onto Guedry Cemetery Road. Lowe died in a military helicopter crash in the Gulf of Mexico. He and his wife resided in Hardin.
New Hospital District Board Member: The Liberty County Hospital District Number 1 has a new board member. Liberty County Hospital District Board President Bruce Stratton said Liberty Attorney Ed Pickett has been sworn in to replace Troy Beasley who recently resigned.
MLK Celebration Canceled: Liberty County’s 20th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration has been canceled. Originally planned for this Saturday, the local event was called off in memory of Lois Lee Pruitt, who was honored at the celebration last year. She died Sunday night.
Obituaries: Lois Lee Pruitt, of Dayton. Service is Saturday 11 a.m. in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Dayton. Arrangements are under the direction of Serenity Mortuary of Houston.
