All District: Dayton Broncos Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jeff Nations tells us that no less than 14 of his top players were named All-district 21-5A. Unanimous choice first team offensive lineman is Hunter Crooks. Other Dayton first team picks were Receiver Lagarious McQuirter and running back Jalen Styner. First team on defense for the Broncos was linebacker Sal Pruneda.
Housing: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Center for Rural Development will hold a free Housing Fair tomorrow morning at the Liberty Center at City Hall. Representatives of the USDA will be presenting information on low interest home loan programs available to low income families. Anyone interested in housing loans through the USDA is welcome to attend the Housing Fair tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Free Men’s Health Clinic: The Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center and KSHN Radio are again hosting a free men’s prostate screening clinic and health fair. It’s set for a week from this Saturday, January 14, from 8 a.m. to noon at the hospital. The free men’s health fair includes both the D.R.E. and the blood test called PSA. LifeShare Blood Center will also have its blood donor coach there. The Health Fair will be at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center, 1353 N. Travis in Liberty. Use the Travis Street entrance.
Property Tax: Property owners have until close of business Tuesday, January 31, to pay property taxes without penalty. The main tax office is on the first floor - Travis Street side - of the Liberty County Courthouse. The Cleveland Annex is located at 304 Campbell Street. Both of those offices are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then from 1 till 4:30. The County Annex in Dayton is on FM 1960. It is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and then from 1 till 4:30. Taxpayers can also make their property tax payments online. For more information, call the tax office at 936-336-4636.
Obituaries: Lou Mettlen Vardeman, 85 of Dayton. A memorial service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Dayton (SFH). ****************************************************
