Raywood Woman Injured: Around 5:15 Tuesday evening, Liberty Attorney Bruce Stratton and his wife Gloria, were backing their vehicle out of their driveway on Travis St. in Liberty. It was at this point a close friend who has visiting, Vada Coward of Raywood, pulled up behind the Strattons. As Mrs. Coward stepped out of her car, she was said to be in the blind spot at the rear of the Strattons' vehicle. Without realizing she was there, Bruce Stratton backed into the woman and pinned her in between the two vehicles. Vada Coward was stabilized at the Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center. She was then transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann in Houston. She is said to be in stable condition, with a fractured pelvis.


LISD Budget: Liberty school trustees approved a balanced budget Tuesday night for fiscal year 2014-15. The approved budget includes a raise for all district employees. Liberty trustees approved a pay raise based on recommendations from the Texas Association of School boards. Professional staff is set for a 5.97% hike while other employees will get a 3% boost. This was prompted by a report presented to Liberty trustees that said LISD staff pay was below the area's median. The LISD board also adopted a tax rate unchanged from the current budget at $1.1686 per $100 in property valuation.


Lock and Load: The Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce's popular Lock and Load Gun Show is this weekend, 9-5 Saturday and 10-4 Sunday, at the Cleveland Civic Center. Door admission is $5 per person and parking is free. For information call (281) 592 8786.


FD Run/Walk Canceled: The 3rdannual Liberty Fire Department 5K Run and Walk that was set for this Saturday has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. LFD Misty Dulaney said they have not had nearly as many runners sign up as in years past, possibly due to the hot temperatures and high heat index values experienced recently.
