Fatality: Michael Georgiou, 36, a former Tarkington area resident, now a police officer in Pennsylvania, was killed in a single vehicle crash early Sunday. Sources say Georgiou apparently lost control and rolled the ATV he was operating on CR # 3011A west of Hwy 321 around 4 a.m. Georgiou was here on vacation. JP# 6 Ralph Fuller pronounced the man dead at the Cleveland Medical Center and ordered an autopsy. 


Liberty Dayton 500: There are still some tickets available for the annual Liberty Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce 500 Drawing, Steak Dinner and Auction this Friday Aug. 8th. The evening begins at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center. The $100 ticket price includes a great steak dinner and a chance at 12 great prizes. This year's grand prize is the winner's choice of a 2014 Dodge Dart or $15,000 in gold bullion, donated in part by Liberty Dayton Chrysler. Only 500 tickets will be sold. Cleveland Drug Bust: Liberty County Sheriff's Deputies and Cleveland Police executed a search warrant on the afternoon of Tuesday July 29th at a residence in Cleveland. Liberty County Sheriff's Captain Ken DeFoor said four men were arrested on narcotics charges. Large quantities of crack cocaine, marijuana and illegal prescription drugs were seized. A post office box in a Humble bank linked to one of the suspects was found to contain $86, 799 in cash, believed to be drug sale proceeds. Cedrick Jerome Bass, 41, Sterling Davison Jr. 43, Dante Rushing age 32 and 34-year-old Troy Lynn Davis are charged with one count each of Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Additionally each of the four men is charged with Possession of Marijuana. At last report, all four remain in the Liberty County Jail on bail totaling $300,000 each.


Hayman Building: The public is invited to the Greg Hayman Building Dedication today from 4 to 6 p.m. The Dayton Jones Library on West Houston at South Cleveland Streets will be renamed the Greg Hayman Education Center for the popular former Dayton School Superintendent. There will be snacks, too.
