Bus Barn Burglarized: The LISD Bus Barn was burglarized sometime in the late Tuesday or early morning hours of Wednesday. Liberty Police investigators say one or more subjects cut through the fencing surrounding the bus barn on Bowie St. in Liberty. Once inside, thieves took batteries and copper wiring from inside several LISD buses. Anyone passing by the Bowie Street bus barn Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, who may have seen someone in that fenced area, are asked to call Liberty Police (936) 335 5666.

DaytonWell: Work on the final phase of the City of Dayton's new water well project is expected to start in the next couple of weeks. The failure last year of the city's Winfree Street Well prompted the multi-million dollar project to replace it. City Manager David Douglas said he expects construction on the pump station and chlorine injection system to start by Aug. 1stwith the new well pumping water in about 4 months.

LISD Board: Liberty school trustees unanimously adopted a proposed tax rate for the 2014-15 budget year during Tuesday night's regular meeting. That proposed rate is unchanged from the current year at $1.1686 per $100 in property valuation. The Liberty school board will hold a budget workshop on August 5 to discuss the district compensation plan and other budgetary issues. Then, at their next regularly scheduled meeting on August 19, LISD trustees will officially adopt this tax rate, compensation plan and a final budget for September 1, 2014 through August 31, 2015.

Burnham Classic: The 25thBurnham Classic, benefiting Tri-County Services, is coming up on August 1-3 at Magnolia Ridge Country Club. The event benefits the physically and mentally handicapped of Liberty County. Bruce Burnham said they are still looking for golfers and sponsors.
