H-D ISD Meals: Under a new federal program, all students in the Hull-Daisetta school district will be able to eat both a healthy breakfast and lunch free of charge throughout the 2014-15 school year. District officials say this is for every Hull-Daisetta student, regardless of income or other factors that normally determine eligibility. Hull-Daisetta ISD Superintendent Mary Huckabay said students do not need to apply for these no-cost meals. She said there are a number of multipliers that determine which school districts qualify for the Community Eligibility Program. Basically, the higher number of district students qualifying for free meals means a higher rate of reimbursement – enough to cover the cost of meals even for Hull-Daisetta students not normally eligible.

Fireworks: The City of Liberty’s annual Independence Day celebration is this Thursday at Liberty Municipal Park. Hosted by Liberty Mayor Carl Picket, the evening will include patriotic music performed by the Invincible Eagles Band and LHS sophomore Sierra Morrison, the states UIL Outstanding Performer. That’s this coming Thursday – July 3 – starting at 8:15 p.m. The big fireworks display begins when the sky is fully dark – around 9:15 or so. It’s all free, and while most folks come to Liberty Municipal Park, others watch the fireworks display from nearby shopping center or school parking lots and from their own yards. As in past years, the fireworks will be coordinated to music broadcast on KSHN.
