DaytonCityCouncil: Monday night the Dayton City Council formally ratified the results of the May 10thcity elections which saw Dwight Pruitt, Jeff Lambright and Sherial Lawson elected to new terms.

DaytonYouth Livestock Auction: This past Saturday, the Dayton Youth Livestock Auction turned out to be a roaring success. According to Suzanne Chachere, who tracks the numbers during the auction, this year's bidding set an all time new record. Generous bidders plunked down $250,614.

Ground Breaking: Last Friday, an official ground breaking ceremony was held at the site of the new 3-lane street connecting the 146 Bypass to Lakeland Drive. The joint project with the City of Liberty and the Liberty Community Development Corporation is expected to take about a year to complete, and will open up some 300 acres of land for development.

LibertyAthletics: Here's a date change to an earlier report on some important information for student athletes in the Liberty school district. Liberty Coach Joe Allen Slack said incoming seventh through twelfth-grade athletes needing a physical can get one next week from the team's physician for $20 cash or money order only. That includes all students participating in sports, drill team and cheerleading. They will be offered from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday May 28th, at the middle school, then Thursday May 29that the high school also from 8 a.m. to 11:30. Students should pick up a packet at their school that needs to be filled out ahead of those physicals.

Memorial Day: The 35thAnnual Memorial Day Service at Palms Memorial Park south of Dayton is next Monday at 10 a.m. hosted by Palms Memorial Park and Sterling Funeral Home. This annual event pays tribute to military personnel who lost their lives in American wars. The public is invited and encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
