Dayton Election: Dayton City Manager David Douglas said Troy Barton, a candidate for City Council, plans to file an objection to Saturday's election in the City of Dayton. Mr. Douglas said city staff has verified that a number of people who live outside the Dayton city limits were allowed to vote in that election. The city contracts with the Liberty County Clerk's Office to conduct its elections. The City of Dayton is awaiting direction from the Secretary of State's office to determine how to handle this unfortunate situation.

Annual Memorial Service: The annual Liberty First Responder Memorial Service is tomorrow night at 7 in Liberty Church of Christ. The memorial pays tribute to those law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical and radio dispatch personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty each year. It also salutes those who continue to serve in those capacities.

Boating Fatality: A Mother's Day outing on the Trinity River turned tragic for a Chambers County family. According to information from Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne, a family was pulling an inner tube behind their boat when it struck a submerged tree near the Liberty-Chambers county line. The family called 911 and returned to the Trinity River boat ramp at the I-10 bridge. A 16-year-old girl was taken by LifeFlight air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she later died. After her family arrived at the hospital, the girl's 24-year-old brother was admitted and underwent surgery. At last report, he was listed in stable condition. No names have been released.

Ground Breaking: The public is invited to a City of Liberty ground-breaking ceremony for the all new three-lane city street from the Highway 146 Bypass to Lakeland Drive through undeveloped property. It will take place Friday at 2 p.m. on the Hwy. 146 Bypass south of Hall Rader Insurance.

Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. Margaret Beason Wilson, 98, formerly of Liberty. Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooke Cemetery.
