Fatality: A Dayton man, 25 year old Kyle Bacon, was killed in an early morning traffic accident in Baytown. Police report an officer noticed a black motorycycle traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph, just prior to clipping the rear of a vehicle pulling out of a private drive. The rider lost control and crashed. Kyle Bacon was pronounced dead at Memorial Herman hospital. Baytown police continue to investigate.


LibertyLit Crit: The Liberty High School Literary Criticism team has done it again, advancing to the state competition in Austin. The Panther Lit Crit squad has advanced to the state tournament ten of the last eleven years. LISD Assistant Superintendent and Lit Crit Coach Randy Gunter, said there are more than 500,000 facts associated with that testing.


DaytonTop Teachers: Last Thursday night at the Dayton Rotary Teachers Banquet this year’s prestigious Dayton Wall of Fame recipient for lifetime achievement was named, Caroline Wadzeck, a retired teacher and librarian. Also during the banquet, two top teachers were honored. This year’s Dayton ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year is Roxie Asbill. She teaches a Colts’ Academy Pre-K class. Another prestigious award is Dayton ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. That honor goes to Cassidy Gardner. He chairs the science department at Dayton High School where he teaches physics and chemistry.


Playoffs: The Dayton boys baseball team as well as the Dayton and Liberty girls softball squads all advanced in the playoffs over the weekend. The Dayton baseball team faces the Magnolia Bulldogs in an Area round, best of three series at Woodlands Christian Academy. Game one is Thursday at 7 p.m. with game two at 7 on Friday. If a third game is needed it will be Saturday at 2 p.m. KSHN will broadcast game 1 of the series. The Liberty girls take on the West Columbia Lady Necks with game one Friday at 7 p.m. Tune in to KSHN to hear that Friday match up. Then, game two is set for Saturday at 4 p.m., if needed game three will be Saturday at 6 p.m. The Liberty/West Columbia games will take place at Friendswood High School.  The Dayton Lady Broncos are at Bryan High School taking on the Elgin Lady Wildcats with game #1 Friday at 7 p.m., game 2 Saturday 5 p.m., if needed, game three 30 minutes after game 2.
