Body Found: A body, later determined by autopsy to be that of a female, was found near a North Liberty Co. home. According to the Liberty County Sheriffs Department, on Monday Sheriffs Sgt. Investigator Brian Bortz went to the home of Billy Bennett on SH 146. Mr. Bennett gave permission for law enforcement to search a barn some 30 yards behind his home. There they found human remains of an unknown person wrapped in a tarpaulin. It is estimated the remains have been there some 6 or 7 months. For now, Billy Ray Bennett, 44, is charged with tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. Bennett was arrested and lodged in the Liberty County Jail on Monday. The investigation continues.

Chambers Co. Copper Theft: The Chambers County Sheriffs Department reports the arrest of four people, Alan Bruce of Conroe, Jaren Mello of Lumberton, Gary Nelms of Texas City, and Paul White Jr., of Portland, Maine in connection with copper theft. The sheriffs department reports the men would go through an area removing copper wire from transmissions lines, acting as if they were linemen working with the electrical company. According to the Chambers County Sheriffs Department, Entergy Power Co. has recorded a loss of $100,000 in Chambers County alone. All four men are in the Chambers Co. Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $125,000 each.

McNair's Recovering: Liberty County Judge Craig McNair was released from the hospital several days ago following a two vehicle crash that injured both he and his wife Lisa. Mrs. McNair remains hospitalized with numerous injuries including broken bones, ribs and a punctured lung. We have been told Lisa McNair will soon be moved to a rehabilitation facility to continue what is expected to be a lengthy recovery.
