Sex Offender Facility: An attempt to locate some of the state's most violent sex offenders to a secretly planned facility in Liberty County appears to be on hold. That's because the company awarded the management contract was unable to acquire the 10-acre site on FM 1960 west of Dayton where the facility was to be located. The contract was awarded by the State of Texas to a company called GMV & Associates; however, that was done without notifying the public or local officials, including State Sen. Robert Nichols, State Rep. John Otto or Liberty County Judge Crag McNair. The Liberty County judge said a facility for violent sex offenders is not the kind of economic development the county needs. Rep. Otto said it's his understanding, at this time, the management contract between the state and GMV and Associates may no longer be valid because the company was unable to acquire the land.
