Pipe Bombs: 59-year-old Steven White of Cleveland was taken into federal custody Tuesday afternoon after a search of his residence turned up two pipe bombs, an illegal gun and methamphetamines. Liberty County Pct. 6 Constable John Joslin said the man’s arrest came after a woman showed up at the office of Pct. 5 Constable Warren Despain with a suspicious device later determined to be a pipe bomb. That led authorities to obtain a search warrant for White’s home in the 800 block of Plum Grove Road. Constable Joslin said the suspect fled but was captured a short time later. Steven White was taken into custody by the ATF Tuesday afternoon. No word on what charges the Cleveland man is facing.

Liberty Airport: Liberty City Manager Gary Broz said exciting things are happening at Liberty Municipal Airport. One of those, he said, is the addition of an aeronautical mechanic who relocated his business to the airport. There are 20 city-owned hanger spaces at the Liberty airport, and 13 of those are leased. That includes two spaces for the new mechanic. The county also leases property where individuals can build hangars. Mr. Broz said Bill Sjolander of Dayton is nearing completion on the hanger he is constructing on city property at the Liberty airport.

Street Project: Liberty City Council met Tuesday night and awarded the construction bid for the new street that will connect Lakeland Drive to the Highway 146 bypass. Doughtie Construction was low-bidder at $5.1 million for Phase 1. That includes 4,595 feet of the three-lane roadway which can later be expanded to five lanes. It also includes the infrastructure to provide water, sewer and electric service as well as a concrete street with curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

Golf Tourney: The Dayton Youth Sports Association is planning a fundraising golf tournament for Friday, March 28, at Red Wolf Golf Resort in Huffman. The tourney is a four-person scramble. Entry is $100 per person of $400 for a team of four. Organizers are also looking for sponsors. For more information or to signup, call Bubba Britt at 713-252-4564.

Obituaries: Blanca O. Espinosa Torres, 36, of Dayton. Service is 2 p.m. Friday at Pace-Stancil - Dayton.
