Election Day: Polls will be open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Here in Liberty Co. there are several contested races on the Republican Party ballot. Since there are few democrats in the running locally, most GOP races will be settled in voting today. There is a three way race for Liberty Co. Judge between incumbent Craig McNair, challengers Todd Fontenot and Jay Knight. In the countywide race for District Clerk, incumbent Donna Brown faces opposition in Brenda McManus Jones. KSHN Radio will have election returns tonight live from the Liberty County Courthouse, as soon as information is available.

TVE Cattleman’s Ball: Organizers say Saturday’s 9thAnnual TVE Cattleman’s Ball was once again a big success. The annual Cattleman’s Ball raises money for student scholarships and general operations of the TVE. Past events have raised a total of more then $200,000 for local students. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Western Heritage Award. This year that honor went to two great ranchers, Bobby Evans and the late Wayne Hankamer. The Evans family settled in southeast Texas in the early 1920’s. Bobby is currently preparing the fourth generation to take over those operations some day.  Bobby and his wife, Cora Beth, both live in Devers. Wayne Hankamer and his brothers grew up farming and ranching with their father, and whether working with the TVE, Chambers County Youth Project show or youngsters who were keeping their show animal in his barn, Wayne Hankamer never passed up the chance to provide support and guidance.

Lady Panthers: The Liberty Lady Panthers softball team started district action with two lopsided wins last week. First, the Lady Panthers downed the Splendora Lady Wildcats 14 to 6. Then, on Friday the Lady Panthers shutout the Huffman-Hargrave Lady Falcons, 10 to 0 in five innings.
