Liberty Co. EMS: A paramedic with Liberty Co. Emergency Medical Service, Douglas Garrett Jones, was terminated Wednesday afternoon from his position following his arrest for felony drug possession and evading arrest. Liberty County Constable Precinct 4 Robbie Thornton was in the Daisetta area working in cooperation with other law enforcement at the time.  He said he saw a vehicle driving erratically. After about 2.5 miles, the vehicle was pulled over. According to Constable Thornton Daisetta Police Chief Mike Parrish assisted and found prescription drugs, not belonging to Mr. Jones and he was arrested for drug possession.  Douglas Jones is also charged with evading arrest. Liberty Co. EMS Senior Supervisor Mike Templeton said Jones was on staff full time as of August.


DISD Security: Dayton ISD Superintendent Dr. Jessica Johnson, since taking the helm of the county’s largest school district, has been working on team-building.  She said one of the main reasons for this concerted effort, is to improve school security.  Dr. Jessica Johnson said one of her top priorities is safe and secure schools for Dayton’s more than 5,000 students.


New Subway: Construction is under way for the new Subway Sandwich Restaurant on Hwy 146 in Hardin. According to Paul Singh of Midway Investments, a Willis based company, work on the estimated 1300 square foot restaurant began last week with completion expected by May. Two old rundown buildings in Hardin were demolished to make way for the new Subway Sandwich Shop and parking.


DU Banquet: The newly formed Dayton Liberty Ducks Unlimited Chapter will hold a fundraising dinner and auction Saturday at the Dayton Community Center. Cost for the all-you-can-eat seafood dinner is $70 per couple, $40 per person and $20 for kids under 17. The event kicks off at 5:30 Saturday evening.
