Timber Thefts: Over the past four months, more than 20 timber theft cases have been reported in East Texas. Authorities say many timber theft cases in this area involve absentee landowners who are susceptible because they are absentee owners and aren’t around to keep an eye on their property. In these cases, the thief is often long gone when the crime is discovered. Be sure to mark all property lines to assure cutting on adjacent property does not encroach on yours. Officials say if you find unauthorized cutting of timber on your land, immediately report it to local law enforcement.
