Shooting: Cleveland Police Captain Scott Felts said just after 1 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a call on Hull Ave. of a man shot. By the time Cleveland PD and EMS arrived, the victim was dead. Captain Felts said their preliminary investigation indicates there was an ongoing dispute related to the ownership of a vehicle. Cleveland police say one person claimed ownership due to missed payments and attempted to repossess the vehicle. Police say that’s when shots were fired and one person was killed. Police have not released the man’s name pending notification of family members. So far, no arrests, but Cleveland police said their investigation is ongoing.

Suicide: Thehanging death of a 13-year-old Moss Hill boy has been officially ruled a case of suicide. The young teen, now identified as Lance Evert Brown, was found hanging from a barn rafter at his home on Hwy 105 Monday. Following an autopsy ordered by JP # Stephen Hebert, the Jefferson County Medical Examiner has ruled the death to be “suicide by hanging”.  

****************************************************Ag Exemption: We’ve reported on a new state law that requires appraisal districts across Texas to mail certain ag-related appraisal notices to property owners by certified mail. Liberty County Chief Appraiser Alan D. Conner said his office has already been doing that for years. The chief appraiser said now the Liberty County Central Appraisal District is mailing ag exemption notices by both regular and certified mail.

Prostate Screening: The date of the annual Free Prostate Screening Clinic co-sponsored by the Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center and KSHN Radio is Saturday January 18thfrom 8 a.m. until noon. The free tests follow recommendations of the American Cancer Society, including the P.S.A. blood test and the D.R.E. done by doctors and urologists. Tests are done on a first come, first served basis at the hospital.
