Volume 28, No. 245 Monday, December 23, 2013

Armed Robbery: The Best Western Dayton Inn and Suites on Highway 90 in Dayton was robbed at gunpoint Saturday afternoon around 1:30. Dayton Police Sgt. John Coleman reports two white males in a red, extended cab S-10 pickup truck robbed the motel and then headed westbound on Hwy. 90. Sgt. Coleman said, at this time, it remains an open investigation. Anyone with information on Saturday’s armed robbery at the Best Western on Highway 90 in Dayton is asked to contact the Dayton Police Department’s detective division at 936-258-7621.

Warning: Several months ago we reported warnings from both the City of Liberty and the City of Dayton to use caution if you receive what appears to be an official looking letter offering low-cost insurance for emergency repairs to your water service line. Those solicitation letters appear to be making the rounds again. This time the company is called American Water Resources of Texas. Dayton City Manager David Douglas said, as in the past, the official looking letter could easily be mistaken for an official document. It is not. The company offering low cost insurance for water line repairs is not affiliated with any city or state agency. Mr. Douglas wants residents to know the city does not endorse the services the company offers. The Dayton city manager urges anyone contacted by that company to exercise caution when considering doing business with them.

HolidayClosings: A reminder – the Liberty County Courthouse and all Liberty and Dayton city offices will be closed tomorrow and Wednesday – that’s Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Cleveland city offices close early today at 2:30 p.m. and will remain closed tomorrow and Wednesday. Banks and post offices will be closed only on Christmas Day, though some may close early tomorrow. Waste Management Service will not run in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland on Wednesday. All offices and services resume regular hours Thursday.

HarrisonSentenced: Ariel Megel Harrison has been sentenced to prison for robbery by a jury in the 75thDistrict Court of Judge Mark Morefield. The 30-year-old man was found guilty of a robbery that took place on Dec. 31 of last year in Cleveland. Now, Ariel Harrison has been sentenced to seven years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
