Shooting in Liberty: Liberty police are investigating a shooting in the 400 block of Texas Street. Liberty PD received calls around 4 a.m. Friday from people hearing gunshots fired in the area of Texas and Cornell streets. A short time later, around 6 a.m., police were called to the Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center in regards to a gunshot victim who had been brought in by family members. 49-year-old Kevin Brown of Liberty was transported by ground ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital, said to be in stable condition. Det. Chip Fairchild said they are following up on a number of good leads. Anyone with information is asked to call Liberty PD at 936-336-5666.

Coker Sent to Prison: A 28-year-old Liberty County man is headed to prison for violating the terms of his community supervision on a burglary conviction. On Friday, Jeffrey Coker appeared before 75thDistrict Judge Mark Morefiled for a hearing on a Petition to Revoke community supervision. Evidence was presented that Coker was involved in an organized retail theft at the Liberty Wal-Mart. Coker also admitted to not paying court-ordered fees associated with that previous conviction. As a result, Judge Morefield sentenced Jeffrey Coker to eight years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for violating the terms of his community supervision on that prior burglary conviction.

Dayton Playoff Game: The Brenham Cubs knocked the Dayton Broncos out of the state football playoffs in an exciting area round game decided by one point. The Broncos took an early 14-0 lead just two minutes into the game, but the Cubs responded to tie things up at 21 apiece at halftime. The two teams exchanged scores in the second half, but the Broncos’ season came to an end on a final offensive drive that stalled on Brenham’s 26-yard line. In the end, it was Brenham moving on with a 31-30 victory.
