Highly Qualified Teachers: Liberty School Trustees heard a report Tuesday night from LISD federal programs director Margaret Gardzina on the required annual Highly Qualified Teacher Report. Ms. Gardzina said 117 of the district’s 120 educators in the four core curriculum areas meet the qualifications to be considered “highly qualified” in the subject they teach. She said 100% of the district’s teachers should meet those standards by the end of the school year if not sooner.

More Republicans File: Two more candidates have filed to run for office in the March 4th2014Republican Primary Election. Incumbent Liberty County District Clerk Donna Brown is seeking another term. So far, she is opposed in the primary by Brenda McManus Jones. Liberty County Chief Appraiser Alan Conner is a candidate for Precinct #4 Justice of the Peace. Incumbent Barry Graves told All Nine News he will not run for reelection. Alan Conner’s only primary opponent to date is Larry Wilburn. The filing period continues through December 9th

Broncos Leadership insists on Sportsmanship: One Dayton Bronco and one LCM Bear were ejected from last Saturday’s bi-district high school football play off game after an altercation on the field. Though a Beaumont TV report called the incident a “brawl”, Dayton School Trustee Larry Wadzeck, who calls play-by-play for our Dayton Football broadcasts said he would not use that term to describe it. Dayton Athletic Director Jerry Stewart said the entire Bronco team participated in what is called a Team Sportsmanship Reminder designed to reiterate their obligations to be respectful to others. The Bronco player who was ejected received a one-on-one session and is required to write a sportsmanship essay to be mailed to the U. I. L.
