Duff Indicted: A Hardin woman, April Dawn Duff, has been indicted by a Liberty County Grand Jury on a charge of theft of property greater than $1,500 but less than $20,000 by a public servant. KSHN reported in late June that the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a 17-year employee of the Liberty County Attorney’s Office after money went missing from the Pre-Trial Diversion Program. April Duff is set for arraignment on the third-degree felony charge on December 3 at 9 a.m. in the 253rd District Court of Judge Chap Cain.


Liberty Projects: The City of Liberty has a number of projects under way, including a new police station plus the new city street linking Lakeland Drive to the Hwy. 146 Bypass and opening up hundreds of acres for development. Also continuing is work to the city’s water and sewer system. All of that is in addition to the new electrical substation that is nearly ready to go online. Funding for the roughly $18 million in projects comes from a variety of sources, including grants, the Liberty Community Development Corporation and city borrowing.


Football Playoffs: Football teams from Dayton, Hull-Daisetta and Crosby have advanced to the Area round of the playoffs. Dayton faces Brenham Saturday at 6 p.m. in Conroe ISD’s Woodforest Bank Stadium. For those who can’t make it, that Broncos versus Cubs contest will be broadcast on KSHN FM and Also online at only is Thursday night’s Hull-Daisetta versus Alto match-up. Kickoff in that one is 7 p.m. in Lufkin. As for Crosby, the Cougars face the Elgin Wildcats Friday at 6 Sam Houston State University.


Jingle Bell Ball: The Liberty Elks Lodge is holding its 8th Annual Jingle Bell Ball, benefiting physically and mentally challenged children, teenagers, adults and their families. It’s set for Saturday, December 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. Qualified participants need to complete a registration form by November 24. Those forms are available at Bob Edwards Realty in Dayton.
