DaytonSewer System: Daytoncity officials report an unknown chemical has been dumped into the city’s sewer system. Sewer treatment plants operate through a complicated aerobic biological process, and whatever was dumped into the system is contaminating the plant. Dayton City Manager David Douglas said someone probably found a dark street in town, opened a sewer manhole and dumped a truck load of chemicals into the system, which could destroy the sewer system if this effort is not successful. City crews are working to restore that balance.


Fugitive Captured: Liberty County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 30-year-old Johnny Dean Knight on Monday at his residence on C.R. 4010 in the Dayton area. He was one of the names on the department’s Top 10 Wanted Fugitives list. Locally, Johnny Knight was wanted for two misdemeanor evading arrest charges and a criminal non-payment of child support charge, originally out of Harris County. He also was wanted in Chambers County on theft of wire and felony evading arrest warrants and also by Deer Park Police Department on outstanding traffic warrants. At last report, Knight was still in the Liberty County Jail.


No Operation Noel:  It has been a holiday tradition for years, but the Board of Directors of the Spirit of Sharing in Libertyhas announced Operation Noel has been suspended. Spirit of Sharing President Eliza Guidry and Board Financial Officer Linda Swearingen said canceling the popular program is due to increased costs. Local churches, clubs, families and neighbors are urged to help find needy kids they can assist this Christmas. Spirit of Sharing has collected toys and food to help make Christmas brighter for local families in need but is suspending Operation Noel this year.


VietnamMoving Wall: The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall will be in Clevelandtomorrow through Monday. The half-size traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial in the nation’s capital will be on display 24 hours a day at the Cleveland American Legion Post on State Highway 321 just south of Cleveland. Admission is free.
