Building in Conflict: A special meeting will be held next Wednesday for Liberty County Commissioners to discuss the fate of the 15,000 square foot building behind the new shelter nearing completion in Liberty.  Liberty County Judge Craig McNair insisted the General Land Office of Texas, who oversees the grant that is paying for the construction, said the old structure must be removed.  Liberty County Commissioner Mike McCarty however said he has spoken with the land office representative and was told the county could in fact keep the building once certain requirements are met.  Since Tuesday’s Commissioners meeting, work has begun to dismantle the building. Mike McCarty said he has a letter from GLO on how they can save the building McCarty thinks would cost $500,000 to replace.

Most know the six-month hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through November 30.
