LISD: New Liberty High School Principal Dr. Chad Barrett is introducing some changes. One of those is new not just to LHS but to all Liberty County Schools. It has been called “mega-lunch” and “activity lunch”. This incorporates opportunities for school club meetings and tutorial periods with the students during lunch period, giving students more choices in allocating their lunch time. LHS has more than 50 clubs for students.

New Laws: A number of new traffic laws passed earlier this year took effect on Monday. One of those amends state statute to increase the fine for passing a stopped school bus loading or unloading children. The minimum fine for that increased from $200 to $500, and the maximum went from $1,000 to $1,250. That bill also increases the penalty for a second or subsequent conviction committed within a five-year period. That’s now a misdemeanor punishable by a minimum fine of $1,000 and a maximum of up to $2,000.

National Night Out: National Night Out is a nation wide effort to bring people out of their homes to meet and greet their neighbors, get to know each other, and also to meet the law enforcement officers who patrol their streets. In addition to the neighborhood events, the City of Liberty is hosting a great big block party, at the city park. The event will be Tuesday October 1stfrom 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature food, education, bike rides through the park with the Police Department Bike Patrol, and more. Every one is invited to come on out to the Liberty City Park, October 1st.

American Legion Golf: The American Legion Dayton Post 512 is looking for golfers and sponsors for its Patriot Day Golf Tournament fundraiser on Saturday September 14, at Magnolia Ridge County Club. Proceeds will support local American Legion efforts as well as the Legion’s national outreach called “Operation Comfort Warriors”. DaytonCityCouncil: Tuesday night, the Dayton City Council approved, on the second reading, two DCDC grants. One for $30,000 to Woods Automotive and another for $25,000 to All Star Kids Family Dental.
