Shortly before midnight, the DISD board reconvened in open session and voted 6-1 to accept Mike Kuhrt’s resignation as the district’s top administrator. It was effective midnight Monday. Then trustees voted 7-0 to hire former DISD Superintendent and Dayton resident Greg Hayman as interim superintendent.

County RaisesTax Rate: Liberty County commissioners voted 3-1 Tuesday to raise the tax rate for 2013-14 from 56 cents to 57.88 cents per $100 in property valuation. Supporting commissioners claim the tax rate increase is necessary because of a decline in property values countywide. They said the higher tax rate will result in the same amount of tax revenue to the county. Commissioner Pct. 3 Eddie Lowrey opposed the rate increase while the other three commissioners – Norman Brown, Mike McCarty and Charlotte Warner - voted in favor.
