Town Hall Meeting: At the town hall meeting held Thursday July 11thto discuss the Liberty County Hospital District, one issue was that the district had only done two financial audits since its inception. One that covered three years, and then one that covered fiscal year 2010. Attorney Sandy Hellums, hired by the city of Dayton, said there was not a state law that compelled the district to perform annual audits, even if it was stipulated in the entity’s bylaws. That’s the case of the hospital district. Hospital District Vice President Paul Henry said the stipulation of an annual audit was put in the district bylaws because it is important the hospital district’s financial operations be examined on an annual basis. He added the board has taken steps since they acquired ownership of the hospital to ensure that they will be. Information from the previous owner was not adequate.
